how one woman combined her passion for stylish and comfortable apparel with her desire to make that style and comfort both accessible and affordable to the “every day woman”
It all began in 2013…
What started out as a simple thought in the mind of young fashion enthusiast, Shakari Lamb, has blossomed in ways that one could only imagine! Dissatisfied with the time it would take her to search through aisles in department stores and try on clothes that ended up either fitting nicely or being comfortable, Shakari decided to take matters into her own hands, and she began her search for a solution to her “retail problem”. In 2013, she went into full research mode, asking all the women in her family and many of those with whom she came in contact if they were experiencing the same issues, and they were! She realized that, as important as style, comfort, and affordability are to women, when it came to apparel, the combination of all three qualities were not so easy to find in any one item or set. Even more, the time that it took to find it was only an added inconvenience.
Now a full-time ESE teacher and mother of 3, in 2018, Shakari’s “retail problem” became a “retail nightmare”, and she finally decided to go all in with her business ideas. Uptown Garb wouldn’t just be for her, but it would be for every woman in her shoes who simply wanted to have a better option.
Today, not only does Uptown Garb offer an array of apparel for women sized 4 - 14, aged 18 to whatever, and from all occupations and backgrounds, but it also offers a promise - a promise to be the convenient online shopping solution for all women; a promise to provide them with quality merchandise; and a promise to deliver exceptional customer service, always!
